IKEA Surface

When is IKEA going to offer their version of a 3rd world produced, eco-friendly version of the MS surface? It will still cost a lot at first, but hopefully it will help it to match my living room layout.

Though the open source surface program is really interesting. Too bady I am lazy, and don’t want to cut up my current table.

This kind of product will be mostly to quickly lookup websites maybe, or otherwise, just as the control for your tv/mp3 player. You won’t see people doing AAA title gaming on it.

DRM Movie Purchases

I’d like to state that all DRM’d downloads of movies, are rentals. Even if you pay to “own” the content, you are still tied down to their servers, and so never really can take it anywhere.

Since Microsoft announced that their old DRM authoring servers are being shutdown in a few months time, and everyone who had bought music now can no longer move them (as they can’t be reauthored), they are stuck with semi useless files.

I am all for tv/movie rentals. I just think if it is a file, that you can’t backup, and you are told you “own” it, it is just useless.

Pork used to feed chickens

This has come up, and some religions have commented that this means they won’t be able to eat the chicken, because by proxy, they will be eating pork, which is forbidden by them.

I’ve heard some point out, that through the chain of life, you are bound to eat something that is a byproduct of pigs already, you just don’t realize it.

My general idea is that if this gets more press, it will give the industry one more thing to put on the packaging to promote it over others “no pork byproducts used!”. The rest of us will just eat the just as (un)healthy chicken that is cheaper.

Plus with food prices going up, people are looking to save money where they can. No politician would try to get in the way of something like that.

Digital Book Downloads

Online stores should start offering a discount on the online version of their books for ebook readers (hint hint Amazon).

Use this discount as a feature, but offer people the offer to pay regular non-ebook price, and the different goes towards planting trees. At first this will offset the loss in trees due to the regular book editions, but if the ebooks surpass the regular editions (a long time coming I think!), you will get a positive return back to the environment.
